I just expected little more.
Jeffrey Dahmer's story is an interesting and disturbing one. This documentary found a way to make it feel a little boring and the wraparound re-enactment scenes just didn't work. Obviously, some interesting perspectives are brought to the surface, but I feel like I've seen it done better on those late night crime biographies.
It does not feature interviews with Jeff's parents; it actually only has substantial interviews from three people -- A Milwaukee medical examiner, the police detective who questioned Dahmer, and a neighbor who was friendly with him at the time of his arrest. Though I wish the filmmakers had talked to a few more people, the interviews that they do have offer some interesting insights into the case. The film is peppered with some re-enactments as well as some decent archival video and photographs.
There is nothing too disturbing seen on screen, though some of the descriptions are graphic. I found the interviews to be quite interesting. Super eerie. Hated the acted out parts though. I didn't understand at first that the reenactment bits were reenactment bits However, despite the reality of his involvement, he is still innocent of wrongdoing. Did Netflix remove Monster anime?
